ALL vaccination centers in Bacolod City will be closed Friday, December 17, 2021, due to Typhoon Odette, an official of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF) said.

Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of EOC-TF, said the vaccination program was temporarily suspended Thursday afternoon until Friday after Mayor Evelio Leonardia issued Executive Order No. 61, declaring the suspension of face-to-face classes in Alangilan National High School and work at various government offices in the city.

Sorongon said the vaccination program will resume this weekend or next week.

Despite the bad weather Thursday, he said thousands of Bacolodnons still went to vaccination centers to avail of the first and second doses of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccines.

The City Government earlier opened 43 vaccination sites for the three-day “Bayanihan Bakunahan” drive of the national government from December 15 to 17, 2021.

It may resume next week or until December 22 among vaccination sites, including those located in the barangays, schools and malls.

In the first “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” from November 29 to December 1, Bacolod City was given a target to administer jabs to 66,000 residents, but it exceeded by vaccinating 70,752 individuals.

EOC-TF records showed, as of December 6, it had 68.93 percent of individuals fully vaccinated and 17.82 percent partially vaccinated.

Sorongon said, as of December 12, only 10 percent of the population eligible for vaccination in Bacolod City has not yet been vaccinated.

He said the city is expecting that before Christmas Eve, the city will reach herd immunity.

“Let us show our support to this program so that we can have our herd immunity before Christmas, let’s cooperate and help our city officials,” he added.

Although Bacolod City remains free from the Omicron variant of Covid-19, Sorongon disclosed that this is no time to be complacent.
