ILOILO City – Two suspected members of the New People’s Army were killed during an encounter with members of the Philippine Army in Barangay Umingan, Alimodian, Iloilo on Friday, Oct. 28.
Police Colonel Noel Aliño, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), said the two fatalities are yet to be identified.
In an initial report, the encounter started at 12 noon while the soldiers of the 61st Infantry Battalion were conducting a combat operation in the area.
They encountered nine armed men allegedly under the Sibat Platoon, Southern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay.
No reported casualties on the part of the Army, Aliño said.
Recovered from the area were two M16 armalite rifles, four backpacks, a rifle grenade, a bandolier, six magazines of M16, and subversive documents.
