BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution requesting the City Health Office (CHO) to lead the city’s observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.
Authored by Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, the resolution cited that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the Philippines.
The Philippine Statistics Authority and the Department of Health records showed that three in every 100 Filipinas were diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, it added.
“Breast cancer is curable, but only if detected and treated at an early stage, and awareness is the key to early diagnosis of the disease,” the resolution stated.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This annual campaign aims to raise awareness about the disease.
Puentevella said early detection test is important.
The resolution encourages the CHO to lead and conduct or support relevant activities in the said celebration the theme of which is “Together We C.A.N.”
CAN is an acronym for Change the conversation, Assist those impacted by breast cancer to get the information they deserve and need, and Nurture and build a community of support./PN
