KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan logged a 1,339 percent increase in dengue cases these past seven months, , according to Provincial Health Office.
Aklan recorded 403 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to July 30 – way higher than the 28 cases reported in the same period in 2021.
So far, three deaths from Numancia, Kalibo and Banga towns were reported due to the mosquito-borne illness. The latest fatality was an 11-year-old girl from Kalibo; she died in a private hospital.
As many as 43 new cases were diagnosed in Morbidity Week 30 in Aklan.
Most of the reported cases were in Ibajay (94), Nabas (72) and Kalibo (55).
PHO-Aklan also recorded high dengue cases in Malay (41), followed by Buruanga (25), Numancia (16), Banga (15), Makato (14), Libacao (14), and Malinao (13).
More than 65 percent of dengue cases in Aklan or 262 were patients between one to 20 years old, followed by 21 to 40 years old (77 cases or 19 percent).
Of the 403 cases, Aklan reported a high prevalence of dengue infection in female individuals with 222.
Health authorities urged the people to take preventive measures. Dengue surveillance continues in high risk barangays.
According to PHO-Aklan, there were clustering of cases in Kalibo (barangays Andagao, New Buswang, Poblacion, Estancia), Malay (Caticlan), Ibajay (barangays Poblacion, Naile, Naisud, Ondoy, Tul-ang, Santa Cruz), Buruanga (Santander), and Nabas (barangays Toledo, Poblacion, Habana, Nagustan, Laserna, and Buenavista)./PN
