GUIMARAS – As of June 16, this island province had five active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
These cases, all local, were recorded in the municipalities of Buenavista (four) and Jordan (one).
The towns of San Lorenzo, Sibunag and Nueva Valencia had no active cases.
The four new cases in Buenavista were in the barangays of Pina (two) and Barangay Tinadtaran (two).
In Jordan, the active case was in Barangay Balcon Maravilla.
The provincial government reminded Guimarasnons to continue observing the health protocols – wearing of facemask, observing physical distancing and frequent hand washing.
Guimaras remains under Alert Level 1 this whole month of June.
Under COVID-19 Alert Level 1, establishments and public transportation can operate at full capacity, while schools can also implement in-person classes.
Negros Occidental and Antique, on the other hand, were recommended by the IATF-EID to stay under COVID-19 Alert Level 2 until the end of the month.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness./PN
