BACOLOD City – Twenty-three out of 61 villages here have not recorded a case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from Oct. 28 to Nov. 10, according to the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF).
“We hope and pray this trend continues,” said Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
The barangays were 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 20 as well as 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 29, 31, 32, 37, 38 and 41 – all considered urban or located in the city proper.
EOC-TF data also showed Barangay Punta Taytay had only one active case in the same period.
Bacolod logged only 14 COVID cases on Nov. 9, the lowest since Aug. 14 this year, said Dr. Rosalie Deocampo, EOC-TF head for contact-tracing cluster.
The EOC-TF attributed the decrease to the intensified vaccination among the pediatric population, ongoing house-to-house campaign and vaccination drive in puroks and remote areas, on top of the aggressive contact tracing and testing (swab-all policy).
“The hard work and dedication of our medical frontliners, doctors, nurses, vaccinator-volunteers, and barangay health workers are paying off,” Leonardia said.
According to the EOC-TF, fully vaccinated residents and those who received their first jab combined account for 58 percent of the target population for inoculation.
This city has been classified under Alert Level 2 by the Department of Health in Region 6.
However, according to Leonardia, now is not the time to be complacent.
He urged Bacolodnons to strictly follow the minimum health protocols and get vaccinated./PN
