ILOILO CITY – More 50 percent of the target population in this southern is now fully-vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
As of Oct. 5, the City Health Office said 263,907 individuals received their second dose of the COVID vaccine, or 50.27 percent of the target population of 525,000.
Majority received Sinovac jabs, while some 30,000 got the single-shot Janssen vaccine.
Before the year ends, the city hopes to fully vaccinate 90 percent of its target population.
“We really have to double our guards,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The city government spent P300 million for 600,000 AstraZeneca doses. It also added P114 million for 163,927 Novavax jabs.
“Sufficient supplies are in preparation for achieving herd immunity as soon as possible. The city has the highest vaccination rate in the region,” said Treñas./PN
