ILOILO – The Sangguniang Bayans (SB) of Dumangas and Leganes towns passed resolutions seeking their possible inclusion to the service area of MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power).
According to Dumangas’ Mayor Ronaldo Golez, he himself requested their SB to pass such resolution.
“Daw daku savings kon matabo nga maka-serbisyo sila sa amon,” Golez told Panay News on Sunday.
He added: “Ang mga negosyante ma-encourage gid nga mag-negosyo…pabor sa ila kon nubo ang power rate nga gina-supply sang isa ka company or cooperative.”
Dumangas, currently being serviced by Iloilo Electric Cooperative 2, charges P12.20 per kilowatt hour (/kWh).
Meanwhile, the SB also passed a resolution requesting Cong. Braeden John Biron to explore in Congress the possibility of including – not just Dumangas but other towns in the 4th District – to the service area of MORE Power.
The SB of Leganes also requested the same from 2nd District’s Cong. Michael Gorriceta.
“Nabatian man lang namon sa Pavia so para medyo may puersa kag indi kami maulihi sa Leganes nga nami ang serbisyo kag presyohanay sang power rate, maupod kami. Ang mga pumoluyo sang Leganes kinahanglan man buligan,” said SB member Samson Jaspe in an interview over Aksyon Radyo Iloilo.
The Pavia SB was the first to suggest its town’s possible inclusion to the service area of Iloilo City’s power distributor.
Leganes and Pavia are being served by loilo Electric Cooperative 1 (ILECO 1) which charges P10.90/kWh.
Jaspe said their constituents were questioning the customer care of the elective cooperative.
“Halimbawa abi mag-brownout sa Leganes kon kis-a ang ila maintenance crew ara pa sa iban nga lugar ti tawgon mo pa. Dira sa Iloilo City nakita ko da ang MORE Power nagalapta ang ila service kon din nga part sang syudad tapos mabal-an nila kon diin may brownout. Diri ‘ya daw kabudlay para sa amon,” said Jaspe.
Leganesnons also complained that ILECO 1 was taking a long time to respond to calls, according to Jaspe.
“Ang mga investors and businesses una pamangkot kamusta ang inyo kuryente. Hambalan nga masyado kamahal komparar sa Manila ti naga-atras dayun,” he added.
Jaspe said it is important to reduce the electricity rate in Leganes, especially since they are planning to set up a Special Economic Zone to boost the town’s economy./PN
