ILOILO – Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) once again breached the compound of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd. in Barangay Agcalaga, Calinog town.
Mayor Francisco Calvo suspended the facility’s operation for 14 days beginning Sept. 9.
“Nagsulit ang infection sa Daewoo compound. Thirty-two naman ka mga empleyado ang apektado kaupod ang isa ka Korean,” said Calvo.
Contract tracing and mass swabbing were ongoing, the mayor said.
“Only operations with manpower that are not from within the compound and are not infected, not close contacts and are not exhibiting symptoms shall be allowed to continue,” read part of Calvo’s executive order.
In April this year, more than 80 employees were infected.
Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. is the contractor of the P11.2-billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Project – Stage II (JRMP II) in Calinog.
The re-infection of the Daewoo employees may be due to the lack of compliance with public health standards, according to Municipal Administrator Rachel Manero.
Manero said the local government plans to consult with the management of Daewoo to ensure all health and safety protocols are put in place./PN
