BACOLOD City – Ninety percent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in hospitals here were unvaccinated against the viral disease, according to Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
Sorongon also revealed that in one hospital with 25 COVID-19 patients, five were intubated.
Four of the seven hospitals here stopped accepting COVID patients. Their beds reached maximum occupancy, Sorongon said.
These were the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, and South Bacolod General Hospital.
The city government requested the Department of Health in Region 6 to augment 50 health workers to the hospitals here.
On Monday, Mayor Evelio Leonardia convened punong barangays and discussed further measures to curb coronavirus transmission.
The recent spike in COVID-19 cases is alarming, Leonardia said.
According to the mayor, in the past weeks, COVID-19 cases here were consistently below the three-digit mark. However, from Sept. 9 to present, Bacolod posted more than 100 cases each day, data from the Department of Health in Region 6 showed.
As of Sept. 15, Bacolod had 18,077 total coronavirus cases – 1,508 active, 16,148 recovered and 418 dead.
Leonardia said the presence of the Delta variant of the virus causing COVID-19 is another reason to be alarmed.
Bacolod has so far recorded 21 Delta variant cases./PN
