ILOILO City – A total of 41,707 personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Region 6 availed themselves of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Data (as of Sept. 17) from DepEd-6 showed 22,675 completed their vaccination.
According to Hernani Escullar Jr., information officer of DepEd-6, these personnel received free jabs from their respective local government units (LGUs).
Most of the vaccinated personnel were persons with comorbidities and senior citizens, Escullar said.
Her advised personnel yet to be vaccinated to monitor the vaccination program of their LGUs.
DepEd-6 has 83,177 teaching and non-teaching personnel.
Dr. Ramir Uytico, director of DepEd-6, earlier said teachers can coordinate with their LGUs while the central office has yet to bare its own vaccination program, if any, for teachers and school staff.
“It (vaccination) is LGU-based as of this time. May mga (priority) categories na sinusunod,” Uytico told Panay News.
The government’s prioritization framework for COVID-19 vaccination listed teachers in “Priority Eligible B” group.
Currently, vaccination is ongoing for “Priority Eligible A” (workers in frontline health services, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities, frontline personnel in essential sectors including uniformed personnel, and indigent population).
“Priority Eligible B” covers teachers, social workers, other government workers, other essential workers, socio-demographic groups at significantly higher risk other than senior citizens and poor population, overseas Filipino workers, and other remaining workforce./PN
