ILOILO – Between January and Aug. 8 this year, 185 learners and personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Iloilo tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Of these, 36 were learners, 126 were teaching personnel and 23 were non-teaching personnel.
Twenty-six of these cases were active (as of Aug. 8), 154 shave recovered and five succumbed to the viral disease.
According to Leonil Salvilla, information officer of the Schools Division of Iloilo, most of the individuals got infected not in line of duty or schooling but “sa family, balay or community kay ti iban sa ila ang nadala sa contact tracing.”
Salvilla added that with this province’s quarantine classification, school personnel are encouraged not to go to back to schools to check Self-Learning Modules, among other learning materials.
“Ang mga obra nga puede man lang madala sa balay ginapadala na lang sa balay,” Salvilla told Panay News.
On the other hand, the DepEd in Iloilo is encouraging all its personnel to avail themselves of vaccines against COVID-19 if there’s a chance.
“Ang kampanya sang DepEd nga kon ang teachers will be given the chance sang aton RHUs (Rural Health Office) or sang aton LGUs (local government units) nga mag-avail sang vaccine, please grab sang opportunity nga magpabakuna kay ti ang pirme gina-remind sang central office is top priority ang health sang school personnel,” said Salvilla.
As of Aug. 6, a total of 3,932 personnel of DepEd-Iloilo already received their anti-coronavirus vaccines out of the more or less 21,000 personnel. Some 2,362 completed their vaccination.
Most of these vaccinees were either frontliners or with comorbidities.
