ILOILO City – While there are no border restrictions in the city and province of Iloilo despite being under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) still heightened its police presence.
PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, clarified that there is no border restriction, no quarantine passes, only the police manning 24-hour checkpoints.
“We will not require travel pass despite that Iloilo are under ECQ, but we have to enhance our police visibility and expect police checkpoints not only for coronavirus disease 2019, but also for crime prevention. Kun makita nila may pulis sa border points, police presence lang ina and to see to it that the public will follow health protocols,” Malong explained.
Malong said the police would make sure health protocols especially the wearing of facemasks and social distancing are strictly followed.
On the other hand, Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director, Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, said the police personnel will stay on their assigned posts, but they won’t restrict the public in going inside the city.
“This is for crime prevention and to catch those who violate the health protocols. So I appeal the public to follow them to avoid being infected by coronavirus disease. Para naman magnubo ang cases naton, indi man mabudlay ang ginapangayo sang aton local government,” said Garbanzos./PN
