An official of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force warned Dabawenyos that activities and events of Kadayawan sa Davao particularly those held in enclosed areas can also be at high risk for transmission of Covid-19.
Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson of the Covid-19 Task Force, reminded the public to prevent from getting infected. They should always be protected in going to these events and gatherings by observing the Minimum Public Health Standards (MPHS) such as wearing face masks, hand hygiene, and social distancing.
“Labi na karon na we are celebrating Kadayawan meaning naay mga gatherings and events in enclosed areas ug ang social distancing dili nato ma-mind. Naa’y uban mu-mask lang kung naay nagtan-aw o nagbantay ang uban dili kabalo mag hand hygiene, so there is high risk of transmission because of the events na we are looking forward because of the Kadayawan and to avoid this dapat magpabilin tang magbalantayon kita mismo kabalo man ta unsa ang high risk unsa ang mga activities, actions na ma-avoid nato ang risk of transmission,” Schlosser said over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Wednesday.
Schlosser advised the public that before celebrating and having fun with this Kadayawan, they should always keep in mind to protect themselves not only by following the MPHS but also by availing and completing the vaccines against Covid-19.
“Ang emphasis pud nato is for the people to really avail of the vaccine dili lang ang primary dose series but also booster and not only Covid vaccines but also other vaccines such as those that prevent measles, and polio. Daghan kaayo ta karon rason mulaag pero unta dili kalimtan sa mga tao nga ang pag protection dili lang sa ilahang sarili but also sa ilang loved ones and the entire community. Balik balik ta ani kay we are living in a community where we affect each other kung dili magpabakuna ang uban dako ug possibility na makatakod sila and ang matakdan nila wala pud bakuna dakong tsansa na ikamatay nila ang Covid-19 ug mao na ang dili nato gusto,” she said.
Schlosser reported that as of August 17, 2022, the city has recorded 101 confirmed cases of Covid-19 that put the city at a positivity rate of 14 percent. She added that active cases for the past 14 days have already reached 1,116.
“Atong nilabay na week we have 608 active cases and then August 7 to 13, 2022 we have additional 508 new cases. When we say active cases it is for the past 14 days ug kung atong i-total na muabot nata ug more than 1,000,” she said.
She said that based on the weekly consolidation of the positivity rate covering the period of August 7 to 13, 2022, Davao City has a positivity rate of 9. 4 percent compared to last week’s eight percent.
“Even sa positivity rate makit-an nato nga naa gyud gamay na pagtaas, although, dili ingon ana ka taas compared tong times na nag surge ta sa Davao pero dili unta nato paabuton na muabot to na panahon labi na karon na we are celebrating Kadayawan,” she said.
Based on the guidelines, patients who are vaccinated can easily graduate from isolation in just seven days.
Schlosser said most of the cases in Davao City are asymptomatic and mild.
