Strong winds and tidal waves caused by Southwest Monsoon or habagat that was enhanced by Typhoon Fabian damaged houses in coastal communities in Iloilo City and Antique province.
In Iloilo City, 14 houses were totally damaged, based on data from Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), as of 5 p.m. of July 23, 2021
These houses were in Boulevard, Molo (5); Rizal Ibarra, City Proper (3); Calaparan, Arevalo (3); Sto. Niño, Norte, Arevalo (1); General Hughes, City Proper (1); and Ortiz, City Proper (1).
On the other hand, 55 houses were partially damaged in these areas – General Hughes, City Proper (30); Boulevard, Molo (15); Sto. Niño, Norte, Arevalo (5); Rizal Ibarra, City Proper (4); and Bo. Obrero, Lapuz (1).
154 families composed of 325 individuals were temporarily evacuated.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) immediately provided the affected families with food assistance.
The city government has also assured that the families with totally damaged houses will receive 10,000 worth of assistance while partially damaged houses will receive P7,000.
In the province of Antique, the provincial government reported that 11 households in Barangay Balac-balac, Culasi were evacuated after their houses were damaged by the strong winds and waves caused by Typhoon Fabian.
Meanwhile, officials from the town of Sebaste also conducted assessment to the possible affected barangays.
Landslides were reported in several barangays in Tobias Fornier with three partially damaged houses.
Last July 20, a cargo ship encountered engine trouble in the vicinity of Semirara Island Caluya. The Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) of the Philippine Coast Guard (PGC) stationed in Semirara conducted immediate operations to rescue the crewmembers.
In an advisory issued on 5 p.m., Friday, PAGASA reported that Typhoon Fabian is now moving over Miyako Islands at West Northwestward at 10 km/h with a maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 185 km/h. (ERS)
