A MOTHER and son were arrested separately by operatives of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit in Central Visayas (RHPU 7).
First to fall was 52-year-old Emma Anglit, a resident of Ipil-ipil Street in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.
Two warrants of arrest were served to her on Monday, October 17, 2022.
One warrant was for carnapping. It was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 59 Judge Judilyn Hugo Tapia Menchavez in Toledo City. Bail was set at P300,000.
The other one was for theft. It was issued by Municipal Trial Court in Cities Judge Wilson Tabalin Ibones in Tuburan. Bail was set at P10,000.
Emma is the most wanted person in Cebu Province.
According to Major Silvestre Cenia Jr., the cases against the Anglits were filed by the child of her former live-in partner after they allegedly took the complainant’s appliances and motorcycle.
On Tuesday afternoon, October 18, it was her son Boyet’s turn to be arrested in Negros Oriental.
He is the second most wanted person in the province.
Meanwhile, Colonel Niel Francia, head of the RHPU 7, said carnapping is not as common in Central Visayas compared to other regions in the country.
He said they recorded only eight cases this year.
However, he warned members of the public who planned to buy a used car to be extra careful.
He said they should check if the car was not stolen.
“They can consult with us for free. There is no payment if they want to verify. They can do so any time of the day, night on weekdays or weekends, as long as they come to our office,” Francia said in Cebuano. (AYB/PJB)
