ILOILO – A 72-year-old man died. He was hit with a coconut branch by his nephew.
The victim was identified as Samson Sala, a farmer, while the suspect was Randy Gil, 34, a laborer. They are residents of Barangay Wari-wari in New Lucena.
New Lucena Municipal Police Station (MPS) investigator Police Master Sergeant Carlito Berte said Gil was riding a tricycle when he met Sala at around 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, and a confrontation ensued.
In an interview with Panay News, Police Lieutenant Jerson Baldevia, chief of the New Lucena MPS, said old grudges may have prompted the suspect’s actions.
“May mga misunderstandings nga nagliligad pa parte sa mga duta nila asta naka lab-ot gid sila sa bayolente nga pamaagi nga pwede man lang tani ma isturyahan,” said Baldevia.
Sala’s body, meanwhile, will undergo an autopsy examination.
“Bale ang asawa sang victim, kag ang nanay sang suspek naton mag utod… plano gid ini sang pamilya nga mag-file sang kaso nga homicide,” added Baldevia.
The suspect is now in the custody of the New Lucena MPS./PN
