THE Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) announced that operations at the airport will only be from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. for two weeks starting Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
Lawyer Glenn Napuli, assistant general manager of MCIA, said in a press briefing Tuesday morning that the 24/7 operations will resume once the Korean Air flight that overshot the runway Sunday night is removed.
The incident Sunday night, October 23, resulted in the temporary closure of the airport.
Julius “Jayjay” Neri Jr., MCIA general manager, told SunStar Cebu on Monday afternoon, October 24, that the damaged Korean Air Flight KE631 is not directly obstructing the runway, but there are standards the airport has to meet, such as how far or high an obstacle is from the runway.
As of Tuesday morning, the Korean Air plane has not yet been removed, but the MCIA and GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation has allowed at least 17 aircrafts to depart as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, October 25. (LMY)
