DESPITE being the frontrunners in various surveys, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said it is not an indication of their victory in the May 9 elections.

“Wala pay kasigaruhan ang tanan. Wala ta kahibalo unsa mahitabo karong election day, ang ginapangandaman tanang mahitabo. Amo na gisaka sa Ginoo ang resulta ug magpadayon gihapon mi sa pagbantay sa boto gikan sa piniliay hangtod sa canvassing, hangtud sa proklamasyon,” Duterte-Carpio said in an ambush interview right after the UniTeam grand rally in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Thursday evening, May 5.

( There is still no assurance on everything. We do not know what will happen on election day. We are anticipating everything that might happen. We all lift the results to the Lord. We will continue to monitor the votes from the election process to the canvassing until the proclamation.)

The mayor thanked her supporters for their continuous support, although she said they are still not complacent, and that they continue to reach out to more areas for a chance to garner more support.

“Hindi ito indicative sa pagkapanalo ng isang tao [survey], pero nagpapasalamat pa rin kami sa trust and confidence ng ating kababayan,” she said.

(Survey is not an indication to conclude that one will win the elections, but we continue to thank our fellowmen for their trust and confidence.)

Duterte-Carpio and her runningmate, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the grand rally of UniTeam in Tagum, one of their last stops before the end of the campaign period on Sunday, May 8, 2022.

In their respective speeches, the tandem emphasized their advocacy of unity in order to achieve progress in the country.

Both candidates also pledged to continue the programs of the Duterte administration, such as the Build, Build, Build program and the anti-drug and criminality projects.

The “BBM-Sara” tandem topped anew the latest poll fielded by the Octa Research group.

The group conducted the survey from April 22 to 25 with a total of 2,400 respondents. Of the respondents, 58 percent said they would vote for Marcos. In the vice-presidential post, Duterte-Carpio kept the lead with 56 percent, although her score decreased by one percent from the result of the previous survey conducted by the group.

In the Davao survey, the UniTeam frontrunners also emerged as the most preferred candidates for president and vice president, respectively, by the University of Mindanao student body, Primum. For the preferred president, Marcos topped the results with 68 percent of the total 6,605 respondents. At the same time, vice-presidential aspirant Duterte-Carpio got an overwhelming 87-percent preference rating, showing that she is the most favored candidate.

The tandem also snagged an endorsement from church Iglesia ni Cristo.
