Cauayan City, Isabela – The Philippine Statistics Authority said that over 2.68 million Filipinos above 15 years old are unemployed as of August 2022, citing a hefty increase versus the figures logged the month before.
Based on the PSA’s report, the most severely affected sector is Agriculture and Fishing where 286,000 jobs have been lost in August.
The agency also bared that other affected industries are construction, recreation, health, social work, real estate, arts and entertainment.
The PSA noted that the national unemployment rate in August rose to 5.3 percent, a stat higher than the 5.2% recorded the month before.
It also told national media that every year, Agriculture and Forestry usually have the highest shed jobs with 140,000 estimated, along with fishing, construction, manufacturing, and aquaculture.
The rise of unemployment has been attributed to the uptick in people within the laborforce which is now at half a million.
Meanwhile, rise in jobs for the vehicle and motorcycle repair industry has been confirmed by the PSA with 1.54 million yearly along with transportation, manufacturing, financial, insurance, professional, scientific, technical skills, and storage. TNF
