Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – An uptick in COVID-19 infections has been logged by Provincial Health Offices in all five provinces in Region 2.
The PHO’s of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino & Nueva Vizcaya have all reported increasing numbers of COVID-19 infections over the past week.
Cagayan province has logged 78 new positive cases, 32 recoveries and 1 death, bringing the total active infections to 407 late on Tuesday, August 2.
The key city of Tuguegarao in Cagayan currently has the highest numbers with 245 active patients, while the CPHO has also noted a steady climb in 85% of all other towns.
Nearby Isabela has also logged 55 new cases on Wednesday, August 3, with 40 recoveries bringing its active infections to 293.
Presently, the independent city of Santiago in Isabela has the highest figures with 49 infections; followed by Ilagan City with 30; Angadanan and Cauayan City each with 22.
Quirino province, which previously had consistent COVID-19 free status over the past months until June has recorded 64 active cases after confirming 10 new infections on Tuesday.
Quirino’s Maddela town currently has most active cases with 21, followed by Diffun with 15, Cabarroguis with 12, Aglipay with 8, while Saguday and Nagtipunan each have 4.
In southern province of Nueva Vizcaya, there are now 121 active patients of COVID-19 with Bayombong having the most infections at 42, while majority of other towns have also logged active cases.
Meanwhile, the island province of Batanes to the north is no longer COVID-19 free as its PHO tagged 7 active cases all in the town of Basco.
Just last month, the Department of Health has confirmed samples of the Omicron BA.5 subvariant in the region and has warned of a consistent climb in the positivity rate of Cagayan and Isabela.
All five provinces are currently under Alert Level 1 until August 15 as hoisted by the Inter-Agency Task Force and the DOH. TNF
