Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday, June 20, that it is monitoring the uptick of COVID-19 cases in Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, the National Capital Region, Western Visayas and Northern Mindanao.
The DOH said the current numbers of COVID-19 rose by 70% nationwide in the past week alone.
Cagayan province in Region 2 has reported an increase at 15 active infections on Sunday night, June 19, while nearby Isabela province logged a sudden climb in cases with 19 active infections after logging 7 new positive patients on Monday, June 20.
In Cagayan province, eight cases were reported in Tuguegarao City; three in Gonzaga; while the towns of Allacapan, Solana, Aparri and Peñablanca each have one infection each.
Out of the 19 infections in Isabela, 7 are in Echague; 3 in Quezon, 2 each in Luna and Mallig; while Ilagan City, Gamu, Roxas, San Mateo, San Pablo each have 1 case.
According to the health department, it is still collating figures on confirmed climbs in cases in Batanes, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.
On Sunday, the DOH has released a tally of 612 new COVID-19 patients nationwide, citing that it is the highest increase in a single-day since April 3 of this year.
It also added that the numbers of COVID-19 in the 6 regions outside NCR are not as high as the reports in the capital region.
Meanwhile, the DOH said it is focusing on the “sharp and quick rise of COVID-19 cases” in NCR where cases have double in only a 7-day period.
Health Usec Maria Rosario Vergeire said “We are again guiding our public and making them aware that this might be the start that cases will continuously rise in the next couple of weeks.”
Health experts along with the DOH said the new Omicron subvariants along with dwindling immunity from vaccines may be causing the rising infections as well as late or slow rollout of boosters. TNF
