Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Philippines has risen to the 33rd spot out of 121 nations in Nikkei Asia’s recent COVID-19 Recovery Rankings, indicating significant progress.
Last year, due to lockdowns and low vaccination, the country was at the the 57th spot in the same index, improving its rank this year as it was also dubbed as 1 of the only 2 Asian countries with the best immunization programs, infection management and also social mobility.
Nikkei Asia, a prestigious Japanese magazine recognized the Philippines, saying it was able to relax restrictions for months with low numbers of COVID-19 reported resulting to its progress in the rankings.
The financial magazine also highlighted the Philippines’ low daily infections logged, lowered COVID-19 deaths along with economic recovery and a rebound on its tourism sector.
Presently, the country is still at ‘Low Risk for COVID-19’ classification as maintained by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Department of Health (DOH) for COVID-19 even as over 65% of its areas have reported an uptick in infections. TNF
