Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Food and Drug Administration of the United States said on Monday, April 25, that it has approved ‘Remdesivir’ a drug versus COVID-19, for the treatment of children under 12 years old.
The US FDA added that it has further approved the use of ‘Remdesivir’ to treat patients as young as 28 days old, provided that they weigh around 7 lbs.
According to international health ministries, ‘Remdesivir’ is the first anti COVID-19 treatment to be approved by the FDA for the younger age group.
The agency said for kids to be given the medication, the younger patients must be admitted to hospitals with mild to moderate COVID symptoms as well as having high risk to shift to severe infection.
It added that these children may also be treated with the drug created by Gilead Sciences, even if they are not hospitalized.
Remdesivir, the injectable drug also known as ‘Veklury’ when sold in the market, has previously been given approval to be administered for infected adults and patients 12 years and older with a minimum weight requirement of 88 pounds. TNF
