Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Department of Health Cordillera has bared on Wednesday, April 27, that the new COVID-19 Omicron Sub Variant BA2.12 has been detected from a female foreign traveler in Baguio City.
According to the DOH, the first case of the new Omicron strain is a 52-year-old female from Finland who arrived in the country last April 2, and has not been isolated since as she was asymptomatic and fully-vaccinated.
The patient has a travel history to Quezon City prior to her visit to Baguio. DOH said the patient has experienced mild symptoms to include soar throat and mild headaches.
Presently, the Finland national has now been clinically recovered and discharged after completing her 7-day isolation.
The DOH said that detection of COVID-19 variants and sub variants takes weeks to process by the UP – Philippine Genome Center, resulting to the late announcement of the current case.
