Manila, PHILIPPINES – Beating the deadline for the filing for substitution and withdrawal, former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar filed his candidacy for senator on Monday, November 15.
The filing did not come as a surprise, however, as Eleazar already confirmed his candidacy for senator on Sunday, November 14, just after he took his oath as member of Partido Reporma in Pampanga.
“I accept the challenge to replicate the brand of public service that we have shown in the Philippine National Police in the past six months. I accept the challenge to work for the vision of genuine reform and transformation for the Filipino people, and I accept the challenge to run for senator of the Republic of the Philippines,” he said in a Facebook post.
As part of the senatorial slate of Ping Lacson and Tito Sotto who are gunning for the presidential and vice presidential posts, respectively, Eleazar said that the Filipino people will benefit from the leadership of two former PNP chiefs.
“Kapag dalawang matinong PNP Chief ang nagsama, asahan ang serbisyong tapat at isusulong ang kapayapaan at seguridad,” he said.
Eleazar, who is running under Partido Reporma, substituted Paolo Capino who earlier withdrew his candidacy. TNF
