Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The World Health Organization has announced on Tuesday, September 14, that the COVAX Facility will be handing out 10 million more doses of COVID-19 shots to the country.
The said additional vaccine donations will be on top of the 13 million vaccine shots already delivered from the global initiative led by the WHO.
WHO country representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe said in statement, “We are looking at increasing vaccine allocations to the Philippines. “We expect larger consignments to come within this third and fourth quarters.”
The WHO country representative added that the supplementary donations will be delivered in the coming weeks amid the current onslaught of the Delta variant in PH.
Presently, vaccine shots already given by the COVAX Facility include 4.58 million jabs of AstraZeneca, 3.2 million of Johnson & Johnson, 3 million of Moderna, and 2.66 million of Pfizer.
There are currently 17.07 million fully vaccinated Filipinos, which is 22.14% of the country’s goal of 70 million to achieve herd immunity or population protection.
Meanwhile, only 28.60% or 22.06 million Filipinos have been given their first doses. TNF
