Peace Begins with a Smile – Mother Teresa
After the adrenaline rush of following the local, provincial and national elections, the counting process and the results, let us take a respite and make some relaxing and quiet time.
Quiet relaxing time for me is a good book, a cool quiet environment and relaxing couch or chair; a good book is better than comfort food and I have quite a collection of books that I read and reread from time to time.
Books are good friends, they can make you laugh, cry and you get insights; I love books and I am now enjoying my new adventure with ebooks.
Some of my friends say nothing beats holding a regular paper book, which I agree, yet the ebooks give us access and choice of books without the bulk; a change forward for the old generation trying to catch up with more savvy generation.
I have recently bought a series of the all time favourite Chicken Soup of the Soul in ebook form which was offered in Facebook. It was an offer of 42 ebooks for 150 pesos; after some hesitancy because I have not bought anything from FB, plus I could not call to ask questions but had to text my queries through Messenger, I finally decided the ebooks was worth it and navigated through the digital world and finally had the ebooks, readable in my phone or tablet.
This means I don’t need to bring my Chicken Soup paper books or my other books that I regularly keep in my car. These last two years I do a lot of driving for the family, and while I park and wait while my sister buys food, vegetables or shopping, I use the waiting time to read snippets or chapters of the books I keep in the car.
Now I can read any of the 42 books anytime, as long as I have my phone and mobile data. I am looking forward to find ebook offers of my favourite authors and hope to add to my elibrary.
I hope our dear readers had relaxing days after the Monday Election; let us accept the results with grace. The next move is to do our part in healing the divide and work for the good of the community and country.
Now into another matter; last Sunday, Mother’s Day, was a special day for many; Mothers in many areas were honoured and treated to surprises and the usual gifts: flowers, lunch or dinner or coupons to the Spa, and many other treats.
Restaurants and resorts were full as couples or families treat out their mothers or spouses. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday for many happy mothers.
Invisible to many was another sector left out on this day. My friend Carmen who lost her mom a few months back posted a touching message on FB early morning on Mother’s Day with a picture of her mom, writing: “Miss you so much everyday but most specially today when I see my friends’ mothers still around!
Love and miss hugging and kissing you. “ Many share this sentiment, including myself; no offense to the many celebrating Mothers Day happily, but some of us feel lost on this day, specially seeing the mothers of friends and we no longer have our mothers with us physically.
This day is a painful reminder of the loss of a very loved one no longer us and seeing the happy celebration can be heart tugging, bringing memories and the ache in the heart. Happy Mother’s Day to all Mothers, you are special and well loved.
To those like my friend Carmen, and myself, who no longer have our mothers with us, we send our love to our moms with prayers of thanks for the happy memories!
