A YOUTH leader and aspiring mayor joined the call for President Rodrigo Duterte to run for Senate in the upcoming May 2022 polls.

Patrol Youth National Chairperson Jose Antonio “Ton Ton” Bustos, in a statement, echoed the voices of his fellow Filipino youth who are urging Duterte to seek a legislative post.

Bustos, who is also eyeing the mayoralty post of Masantol town under Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party, said the outgoing president’s proposed bid will serve as a unifying force while the Filipino nation undergoes a divisive exercise of electing a new leader.

“While we are in the midst of a time when our nation is divided in choosing who will be installed in the highest position in the archipelago, we need more than ever a force that will encourage and promote unity as a race, despite our differing political views,” he said.

Bustos, who is the youngest mayoralty bet under PDP-Laban, described Duterte as a public servant extraordinaire, saying “he did not only served as the country’s Chief Executive but more significantly he has forged a nation with a united vision and crusade towards prioritizing the welfare of every Filipino family and protecting the future of our youth – the hope of the motherland.”

He added that Duterte also gave Filipinos reassurance of the government and what it can do for them, and also stood as the father of every Filipino household and family while serving as a figure who observed the economic and political trend in the country.

“He is President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, our beloved Tatay Digong, who led the war against the spread of illegal and harmful drugs in our country. He is the reason why parents of every household are more secure in the whereabouts and future of their children, and why every youth is free to dream again and work hard for themselves, for their families, for our country,” Bustos said.

He added the country must secure the initial gains of this administration, particularly the crackdown on illegal drugs and substance abuse which are greatly for the benefit of the Filipino youth.

“President Duterte needs to continue his pioneered legacy for the country. We desperately need the likes of him in the branches, agencies, and departments of our government to ensure that the sitting public servants have a common and united desire which is to serve the people.” Bustos added.

He urged his fellow youth to join the call and rally behind Duterte should he decide to take the challenge of serving anew the Filipino people.

“Let us unite our voices, let us unite our hearts and strengths to promote a candidate who will surely take the Philippines to its rightful place alongside the most powerful and most developed countries in the world. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will be our eyes, mind, and heart in the Senate. We need him in the Senate to ensure that real and meaningful change can continue and remain,” he said.

Bustos and Patrol Partylist, the mother organization of his led-youth group, are known allies of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and the Duterte administration.
