SAN Simon Acting Mayor Leonora Wong on Monday, July 26, drummed up the call for investors along Quezon Road to assist in the rehabilitation of drainage system along major thoroughfares.
Wong on Tuesday, July 27, said she will ask plant owners along national road to take part in reviving the drainage canals in front of their properties for the benefit of the whole communities where they are doing business.
She said she will ask for the support of the San Simon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. whom she was set to meet Wednesday afternoon, July 28.
“This is very timely because I will be meeting with the business chamber on Wednesday to hear out their concerns and I will take the opportunity to also bring up the concern of the local government and the residents around their area,” she said.
Although a national road, Wong said businesses can take part on flood mitigation efforts, especially at their host communities, through their corporate-social responsibility program.
“Our investors are actually very generous and supportive of the local government’s program so I am optimistic that they we will receive a positive feedback,” she said.
Wong’s statement came following the residents and Real Steel Corporation’s (RSC) call for the local government to intervene on the perennial flooding problem on Barangays Sta. Monica and San Isidro here which residential areas are parallel to the Quezon Road.
It could be remembered that RSC has taken the initiative to revive the drainage systems in front of their property but its functionality is barely felt due to clogged portions of the canals in other areas.
The rehabilitation of the said waterways is seen to ease the flow of floodwaters from the residential areas of affected barangays going to tributaries.
Meanwhile, aside from drainage system rehabilitation, Wong was also expected to discuss with investors the ways on how to improve the ease of doing business in their municipality.
“During my nine-year term as mayor, we were recognized for streamlining the processing of business permits and I want to reinstate, if not improve, that program again,” she said.
She added that only 30 members of the business chamber were expected to attend the said meeting in observance of social distancing measure.
