THE Provincial Government of Pampanga gave poultry operators in Santo Tomas and Minalin towns to comply with the necessary environmental laws and procedures in the operation of their farms or face hefty fines for every violation.
This was the result of the meeting held on Tuesday, July 27, at the Capitol were issues on alleged violations of some 17 poultry farms were discussed based on a recent joint inspection conducted by the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office, Environmental Management Bureau, and National Bureau of Investigation.
Tuesday’s meeting was chaired by Governor Dennis Pineda Pineda. It was found out that only 12 out of 17 poultry owners hold Environmental Compliance Certificates (ECC) and most of the farms have violations and non-compliance of many environmental laws. Some of them allegedly violated environmental laws, such as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, Philippine Clean Air Act, Philippine Clean Water Act, and Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act.
As a corresponding penalty, they may be fined not more than P50,000 for each law violated, and P19,500 for each year of violation. Each poultry was only given one year for the rehabilitation of their respective areas.
Pineda had ordered the immediate compliance of the poultry farms and to help address the problem of waste disposal, sanitation and foul smell coming from the said poultry farms.
The meeting was also attended by the mayors of Minalin and Santo Tomas.
