THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Davao Region (LTFRB-Davao) announced on Tuesday, September 27 that the new fare hike will be effective beginning October 3.

For traditional public utility jeepneys (TPUJ), the new adjusted base fare is P12 from P11, with an additional P1.80 for succeeding kilometers.

The fare for modern public utility jeepneys (MPUJ) also increased P1 from P13 to the new base fare of P12. A rate of P2.20 is also added per kilometer.

According to LTFRB, this is a nine percent increase for the base fare and 20 percent per kilometer for TPUJ, while an eight percent increase for the base fare and 22 percent increase every kilometer for the MPUJ.

Included in the fare hike are public utility buses (PUB) operating in the region. For regular City PUB, the new base fare is P13 with an additional P2.25 per kilometer. This is an 18 percent increase from the previous base fare of P11.

For air-conditioned City PUB, the new base fare is P15 from the previous P13 – an increase of 15 percent. P2.65 is also added for succeeding kilometers. Regular Provincial PUB also increased its base fare to P11 from P9, with an additional P1.9 rate per kilometer.

Also, taxi services are authorized to increase P5 in their flag-down rate and adjust the base fare from P40 to P45.

In line with this, transport franchisees, operators, and drivers are advised to request the latest fare matrix from the office of LTFRB so they can start collecting the adjusted fare rates.

The documents needed to comply with the fare matrix include the latest OR/CR, franchise verification, copy of provisional authority, and official receipt of payment.

The fees included are P510 for an increase in rates, P10 for the legal research fee per case number, and P50 per unit for the fare matrix.

The schedule of payments and releasing of fare matrices will begin on September 29 for PUBs, September 30 for taxi units, October 3 for PUJ routes from A-C, October 4 for PUJ routes from D-M, and October 5 for PUJ routes P-W.

On October 6 and 7, all routes and denominations can be accommodated, including Davao del Sur PUJ on October 6 and Davao del Norte PUJ the next day.

The LTFRB-Davao reminds all public transport vehicles to always display the updated fare matrix in their units otherwise drivers and operators may be sanctioned if they are charging the increased fare without the matrix. ICM
