DOT-Davao Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan said on June 9, they have prepared different tourism circuits in Davao’s provinces that include various eco-tourism activities such as dive spots, sun and beach, culture, nature-based tourism and farm tourism.
Some of the identified tourism circuits are Davao Oriental with a “Sun and Beach” and “Chasing Waterfalls” loop, “Extreme Adventure” in Davao de Oro, and “Culture and Adventure” for Davao Del Sur and Davao del Norte.
“Itong mga circuits na na-prepare natin for those areas, baka matulungan on a national level na promotions (Hopefully the circuits we have prepared in those areas will be promoted nationwide),” Tan said during the Wednesdays at Habi at Kape press conference, referring to DOT’s priorities regarding Davao Region’s tourism industry.
Tan said they have originally prepared for domestic travel and visitors, but as international flights slowly open, they are also hopeful to receive foreign visitors thus the hope for a wider, national promotion of Davao Region.
Aside from establishing the tourism circuits, the regional director said they are continuously developing the eco-tourism sites in coordination with the different local government units.
“It’s not enough to promote, so we still continue to work with LGUs to develop and enhance these areas so the tourists who come here will get that well-rounded tourism experience,” Tan said.
Some of these development strategies include prioritizing the surrounding facilities within the tourism circuits, such as accommodations and restaurants to support the sector.
Tan said some of the strategies underway are accreditation plans for restaurants and accommodations, and for those areas not yet qualified for accreditation will be given training and site developments in coordination with the LGUs.
“There’s a lot of work that still needs to be done in terms of enhancing the sites and destinations,” Tan said.
