Around 180 individuals in Davao Region were arrested in violation of the gun ban of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that took effect in January this year, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao.
This is in accordance with Comelec Resolution 10728, which suspends the permit to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFOR) for civilians.
According to the data provided by PRO-Davao from January 9 to June 2 this year, 171 firearms were confiscated, of which are 32 deadly weapons.
Charges have been filed against the apprehended individuals.
PRO-Davao Spokesperson Eudisan Gultiano said most of the violators were apprehended in various operations, including during drug buy bust operations, while others were apprehended in checkpoints.
Gultiano said that those with no pertinent documents of their firearms will be arrested.
“Kapag wala kayong kaukulang dokumento sa mga baril kung sakaling magdala, maaari po silang ma-apprehend o mahuli at makasuhan (If they failed to present any valid document of your brought firearms, they might be apprehended or arrested) for violation of Comelec gun ban,” the police official said.
The election period lasted until June 8.
Meanwhile, PRO-Davao recently said that they did not encounter any major untoward incident related to the elections.
She said that they remained on heightened alert even weeks after the May 9 elections. RGL
