DAVAO City Mayor and presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio revealed on Monday, May 16, that she has not spoken to her father, outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte, since August last year.

This despite both of them attending the miting de avance of the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod -Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), led by mayor-elect Sebastian Duterte, on May 6 in San Pedro Street, Davao City.

She said that she and her father did not see each other during the event. The mayor was only able to mingle with her father’s longtime aide, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.

However, she is hoping that she will be able to soon meet with her father, who is set to step down from presidency by June.

“I’m sure, very, very soon, magkita gihapon mi ni (I will get to see) Pangulong Duterte,” the Presidential daughter said during an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.

During the miting de avance, Duterte-Carpio said in jest that she is in a rush to finish her speech to leave the event before her father arrives.

“Pero musibat ko bago siya [the President] muabot kay basi kasab-an ko. ‘Inday Sara unsa na pud gibuhat nimo?’ (I have to sneak out before he arrives because he might scold me ‘Inday Sara, what did you do this time?’,” Duterte-Carpio said.

Duterte-Carpio previously said that she has never discussed anything politics-related with her father.

It can be remembered that Duterte expressed his dissatisfaction with the mayor’s running mate, former Senator, now presumptive President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

The President, in his several public engagements, reiterated that he won’t be endorsing anyone in the presidential race until election day, and that he will only be voting for his daughter.

Duterte-Carpio, meanwhile, is set to have her inauguration as vice president in Davao City tentatively on June 19, ahead of Marcos’ oath taking. It is, however, unclear if the incumbent President would personally witness the event.
