While attending the miting de avance of Hugpong ng Pagbabago on May 6 at San Pedro Square, Duterte-Carpio shared how the local administration, during her term, has prioritized paying off the city’s debt of around P1 billion.
“Ang mga utang na gikuha sa gobyerno, sa atong lokal nga kagamhanan dinhi sa siyudad sa Davao, gibayran nako tanan para ang mga mosunod nako nga administrasyon wala na sila’y problemahon na pagbayad sa utang sa siyudad,” she said.
(We paid off our debts to ensure that the next administration will not have to deal with it.)
Duterte-Carpio was also proud to share that during her stint, Davao City has earned numerous achievements, including the recognition as the 4th Most Competitive City and 8th Richest City nationwide based on the National Competitiveness Council’s Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index.
The Davao City Police Office was also named as the 2nd Best City Police Office nationwide with a record of zero human rights complaints, while also ending local insurgency in the city. “Sulod sa upat ka-tuig nahuman nato tanan ang problema sa insurgency dinhi sa siyudad sa DAvao,” she said.
Before the national elections on May 9 will determine whether she will ascend as the next vice president or return to private, civilian life, Duterte-Carpio said she has no plans to return to local politics, bidding her constituents in Davao City goodbye.
“Mga Dabawenyo, manamilit nako kaninyo kay dili nako makabalik o dili nako mubalik sa local government nga pagdagan nga position,” she said during the Dumper PTDA grand rally at the Davao Crocodile Park grounds on May 1.
She also said during a radio interview on May 2 that if she does not win the national polls, she will take a leave to rest and focus on her family life and children before involving herself in campaigns and efforts to end child abuse.
“Pagsugod sa 2023, do more work for kampanya nato against child abuse and neglect. This is something very close to my heart and as a lawyer, I’m sure naa gyod koy mabuhat para ni ani,” she said.
