Derrick Cainglet Jr., administrative staff officer of CEE-Davao, revealed that 2,651 or 79.54 percent of public market vendors out of the total population of 3,333 have been vaccinated, leaving only 682 or 20.46 percent unvaccinated.
“Sa among opisina sa main, nag baba na gyod mi sa palengke para pahimangluan ang atong mga market vendors, i-persuade sila na mag pa vaccine na (We’ve already reminded vendors in our public markets and persuaded them to get vaccinated),” said Cainglet in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio on Monday, December 27.
According to the CEE-Davao representative, Davao City has eight city-owned and operated public markets, namely, Bankerohan, Agdao, Mintal, Tibungco, Bunawan, Lasang, Toril, and Calinan.
Agdao public market has reportedly the highest number of vaccinated vendors with 96.40 percent, followed by Mintal public market with 88.46 percent, and Calinan with 84.06 percent.
“Ang Tibungco, Bunawan, Lasang, gi isa na lang ni sila kay gamay mani na markets, naa sa 93.33 percent ang vaccinated and 6.67 ang wala pa (Tibungco, Bunawan, and Lasang are joined together since they are only small public markets. They have a total of 93.33 percent of vaccinated vendors, while 6.67 percent are unvaccinated),” said Cainglet.
Through the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force Resolution 52, Cainglet said that all public market vendors are required to be vaccinated, otherwise they will not be prioritized or renewed in registering their business permits.
“Based sa atong resolution, walay gihatag na timeline or deadline sa ilang pa vaccine pero dili sil ma-priority or dili sila ma-renew ilang mga business permit kung dili sila fully vaccinated (Based on the resolution, there is no deadline for their vaccine but the business permit of the vendors will not be prioritized or renewed if they are not fully vaccinated),” he said.
However, despite the implementation and continuous vaccination efforts of the City Government, Cainglet said there are still vendors who refuse to be jabbed, with some waiting for their preferred Covid-19 vaccine brand.
“Ang common reason nila is ang brand sa vaccine,” he said. “Depende ra na sa atong mga market vendors sa ilang willingness gyod kay daghan man vaccine sites na daghan og offer ana na brand, naa ra gyod na sa ilaha (The common reason is the brand of vaccine but it really just depends on the willingness of the market vendor since there are a lot of vaccine sites offering other brands).”
With regards to the highest number of unvaccinated market vendors, Bankerohan public market leads with 285 unvaccinated personnel out of 929, while Toril public market has 243.
Cainglet encouraged all the remaining personnel who have yet to receive their vaccines to get inoculated as soon as possible in all operating vaccination hubs in the city.
