IN ORDER to achieve the 1.2 million herd immunity faster, the Davao City Government announced on Tuesday, October 19, that it will open its drive-thru and door-to-door vaccination.

In a Facebook post, the City Government said it will now allow the drive-thru vaccination at the People’s Park.

The drive-thru will cater to senior citizens and persons with physical disability (PWD) who are struggling to walk to the vaccination site.

Private cars, tricycles, and sidecars, that are willing to wait 15 to 30 minutes for the post vaccination, will be catered. Taxis are not allowed.

“Abli kini alang sa (This is open to) WALK-IN clients, 18 years old and above hilabi na sa mga (especially those) senior citizens nga wala pa nabakunahan (who are not yet vaccinated),” the city wrote.

Vacinees are reminded to bring with them their Safe Davao QR (DQR) Code, valid ID, and ballpen. While those who are about to get their second dose to bring with them their vaccination card.

The Office of the Vice Mayor’s Office (VMO), in a separate Facebook post, also announced that their office will be leading the door-to-door vaccination.

Bedridden senior citizens, PWDs, and those struggling to walk through the fixed vaccination sites will be prioritized.

Family members or household members who are physically fit to visit the site vaccination are prohibited from availing the said vaccination.

For the door-to-door vaccination, the recipient must register, and the VMO will contact them for screening and scheduling.

For the vaccines to be used, the single shot Janssen Johnson & Johnson will be administered, subject to availability.

Doctors will also be present during the door-to-door vaccination for physical screening of vaccinees.

SunStar Davao reached out to Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser for additional details but she has not yet responded as of Tuesday, October 19.

Schlosser, meanwhile, said in a recent interview that the city is fast tracking to achieve the 1.2 million herd immunity, at least for the first dose, on or before November this year. The city is targeting to achieve 15,000 daily vaccinees.

But she said they have yet to achieve the daily target of 15,000 vaccines.

The official said the city had expanded its vaccination programs by opening more vaccination hubs and other strategies to reach out to more Dabawenyos.

The city recently launched the evening vaccination, and has been expanded to selected malls, while it had allowed walk-in vaccinees to almost all vaccination hubs. The VMO-led mobile vaccination had already reached out to far-flung areas.

According to the Davao City Vaccination Cluster data as of October 18, the city had already reached 64.2 percent herd immunity for the first dose as 836,662 individuals already received their first dose.

A total of 719,140 individuals had been fully vaccinated after receiving their second dose, while some had received the single shot Covid-19 vaccine.
