PRESIDENTIAL daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio urged her supporters to back the vice presidential bid of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Ibigay po natin sa kanya ang pinakamalakas natin na suporta sa kanyang desisyon na tumakbong vice president (Let us show to him our strongest support on his decision to run for vice president.),” Duterte-Carpio said in a video uploaded on Wednesday, September 15.

“Ang sigaw ng suporta naming mga Dabawenyos ang pagiging lagging masunurin sa batas at panatilihing matatag ang Davao sa lahat ng problema na hinaharap ngayon at darating pa sa aming lugar (The support of Davaoeños is exhibited through following the law and showing resilience amid difficult times.),” she added.

Meanwhile, Duterte-Carpio said she and father have already come up with a decision on their respective political plans.

“Meron kaming maayos na kasunduan ni Pangulong Duterte sa aming kani-kaniyang karera sa pulitika (We had an agreement with President Duterte regarding our own political careers. Let us give him the support he needs to run as Vice President),” the mayor said in a video uploaded on her official Facebook page, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.

Her video message came nearly a week after she announced that she will not be running for any national post in the 2022 elections, following the announcement of her father’s acceptance of PDP-Laban’s nomination.

The President on September 8, 2021, formally accepted his nomination as the vice presidential bet of the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

Duterte, the PDP-Laban Cusi faction chairman, said he accepted the nomination because of his love for the country.

The President’s daughter had previously distanced herself from her father’s candidacy for next year’s election.

When asked if she will help the PDP-Laban the way her political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), helped in the 2019 senatorial elections, the mayor responded, “No. I will not share my light this time.”

Meanwhile, Duterte-Carpio thanked her supporters, both Filipinos and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who expressed their trust and confidence in her.

“Nagkakaisa tayo na gustong makita ang maliwanag na kinabukasan ng ating mahal na Pilipinas. Ang pag-asa ay nasa ating mga kamay, kahit saan man tayo manungkulan. (We are one in wanting a bright future for our beloved Philippines. Hope is in our hands, regardless of our political position),” she said.

The mayor also thanked some 700 parallel groups that were organized to convince her to run for the presidency.

“Ito ay isang karangalan na hindi nabibili at hindi ibinibigay sa lahat ng politiko at hindi ko kakalimutan ang ginagawa ninyo para sa akin (This is an honor that cannot be bought and bestowed to any politicians, and I won’t forget everything you had done for me),” Duterte-Carpio said.

She urged her supporters to continuously help fellow Filipinos even if it is not election-related.
