Tetta Baad, Balik Cebu committee chairperson, told reporters they were happy to implement the program after a two-year hiatus of Sinulog events due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, Baad said there were no pre-booked group arrivals this year.
She said the airport welcome served as a promotional activity to raise awareness among balikbayans that Balik Cebu is back.
“We expect group arrivals that are pre-booked in 2024,” she said.
Baad said they always held a welcome reception for international arrivals during this period for the last 22 years.
“But there is no way that we can track the exact number of balikbayans that arrived in Cebu because many of them come home in December during holidays,” she said. (MKG)
