Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, who chairs the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (Chac), announced during a press conference Monday, October 24, 2022, that the summit will happen on December 1 and 2.
Garcia said the objective of the summit is to make the public aware of the natural and cultural heritage in the city.
The other goal of the event is to get involved with the local communities who are living near heritage sites for the preservation of these historical landmarks, he added.
“Usa sad sa focus nato mao gyud ang pagbalik sa turismo diri sa atoang siyudad sa Sugbo. Nasayod ta nga with tourism, mo gana ug mo improve ang atong ekonomiya,” said Garcia.
The vice mayor said once the tourism industry will be boosted, this will create a trickle-down effect to different businesses and livelihoods of the Cebuanos.
The summit will also be the venue for the crafting of a heritage charter that will be used as basis or guide when creating ordinances or resolutions related to heritage sites. (IRT)
