Records from the City Health Office (CHO) showed that the city had a total of 765 dengue cases with 10 fatalities from January 1 to September 10, 2022.
For the same period last year, there were only 234 cases and three deaths.
Records also showed that of 61 barangays, Barangays 12, Mansilingan and Taculing were identified as dengue hotspots areas, or the barangays with an increasing number of dengue cases for four consecutive weeks.
Barangay Mansilingan had the highest number of cases with 101, followed by Barangay Taculing – 61; Estefania – 55; Tangub – 52; Villamonte – 47; Singcang-Airport – 45; Alijis – 44; Sum-ag – and Cabug with 43 each; Sum-ag – 38; Mandalagan – 34; Cabug – 37; Mandalagan – 35; Handumanan – 31; Bata – 17; Granada – 24; Banago – 14; and Vista Alegre – 17.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of City Health Office’s Environment Sanitation Division, said they conducted spraying and fogging in Barangays 12 and Bata last week to prevent the increase of dengue infections.
Tan said they were also conducting health education campaigns in various health centers and capacitating health centers in screening febrile patients for dengue.
She added that those who have fever or flu-like symptoms should seek early treatment or consultation.
Tan urged all individuals at household level to search and destroy all breeding and nesting places of mosquitoes.
