Pama said that five of them were unvaccinated while the other five had no vaccination status leading them to assume that they were also not inoculated.
But she said that they could not categorically conclude that the new deaths due to Covid-19 are increasing since the reporting of the data is late.
“Majority of the those who died lately are not vaccinated or have comorbidities,” Pama also said, adding that they are the focus of the Department of Health (DOH) along with senior citizens and school children
DOH has launched a stronger nationwide booster vaccination campaign dubbed “PinasLakas” recently.
It aims to increase the number of Filipinos who have been given a Covid-19 booster shot, to help maintain the country’s wall of immunity.
In Negros Occidental, the campaign had just started because previously the provincial government was focused on its anti-dengue campaign.
Pama noted that they met with health officers of various municipalities in the province to give them their target (population for inoculation).
This is in response to the 100 days deadline set by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr to fully inoculate 70 percent of the general population eligible for vaccination against Covid-19, she said.
For its part, the Department of Health has ordered its line agencies to inoculate the general population on or before September 30.
Under the program, 70 percent of the minors between 5 to 17-years-old eligible for vaccination should be inoculated and 80 percent for those who are between 18 to 59 years old.
For senior citizens, the target is at least 85 percent.
“The challenge is very big,” Pama admitted as she disclosed that they are helped by relief international demand generation in the southern part of Negros Occidental.
The non-government organization had sent teams in the cities of Kabankalan and Sipalay and the town of Cauayan for this endeavor, she said.
As of August 20, 67.56 adults or about 1.2 million of the total population and 59.88 percent senior citizens or about 137,000 in Negros Occidental were already vaccinated.
