Records of the City Health Office (CHO) showed that the city had a total of 667 dengue cases with nine fatalities.
For the same period last year, there were only 196 cases and two deaths.
Barangay Mansilingan had the highest number of cases with 79, followed by Taculing and Estefania with 51 and 50 cases, respectively.
Barangay Tangub reported that 45 of its residents fell ill to the mosquito-borne disease; Villamonte – 41; Singcang-Airport – 40; Alijis – 38; Sum-ag – 35; Mandalagan – 34; Cabug – 33; Handumanan – 25; and Bata – 18.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of City Health Office’s Environment Sanitation Division, said Barangays Mansilingan and Taculing were still identified as dengue hotspots.
She said they were conducting intensive health education campaigns in various barangays on dengue disease transmission, early consultation, and importance of searching and destroying mosquito breeding places.
She added that they were also conducting fogging and spraying in various schools.
Tan also reiterated that the public should practice the 4S program of the Department of Health.
The 4S stands for “Search and destroy” mosquito-breeding sites, practice “Self-protection measures” such as wearing of long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and daily use of mosquito repellent), “Seek early consultation”, and “Support fogging/spraying.”*
