NEGROS-BASED group “Padayona Inday Sara” remained optimistic that Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio will eventually decide to run for president in the 2021 elections.

Despite her declaration that she will opt for reelection instead of seeking the nation’s highest seat, volunteers from various movements across the country and around the world continue to push for her candidacy.

Retired police colonel William Señoron, convener of the “Padayona Inday Sara” movement through the Alliance and Broadcasting Committee, said they remain upbeat that the younger Duterte will heed the calls of her supporters.

“There is no finality yet. There is still no closure because there is still time for her to consider running for president,” he said.

Señoron added that aside from the “Padayona Inday Sara,” many other groups also continue to appeal for the mayor from Mindanao to run believing that she is best qualified to succeed her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.

Last week, the Presidential daughter announced that she is not running for any national position.

Duterte-Carpio said she and her father agreed that one from their family should seek a national post.

She also earlier thanked those who expressed their trust and support in her capability to lead the country.

In Negros Occidental, the “Padayona Inday Sara” movement, which is composed of various groups, has been conducting community service activities such as medical mission, feeding program, and tree-planting to convince the incumbent Davao City mayor to run for president.

Several chief executives in the province have publicly declared their support in case she decided to run for president.

Among them are Silay City Mayor Mark Golez, La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan, and Hinigaran Mayor Nadie Arceo.

The Commission on Elections has set the filing of certificates of candidacy for all elective positions for the May 9, 2022, national and local elections starting October 1 until 8, 2021.
