This, after the group noticed that the price per kilo of rice has not changed, remains high despite the promise of the incumbent President Marcos that he targets to lower the price of rice to at least P20 per kilo.

Cathy Estabillo, spokesperson of Bantay Bigas, told IFM Radio, that President Marcos Jr. should already appoint an official he trusts who can focus on purely agricultural matters.

She said the price of the staple remains high despite the lowering of tariff imposed by the government on imported rice that only benefited rice  importers. (Badz Agtalao)

HMFD cases rising in Pangasinan, Region 1

THE number of persons infected with the hand, foot and mouth disease (HMDF) in Region 1 is increasing, notably in Pangasinan, according to Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, Medical Officer IV of DOH-CHD-1, said from December 11 to 17 last year, the number of persons in Region 1 infected with HFMD already reached 2,283.

Pangasinan reported 779 cases but La Union registered higher HFMD cases at 1,278. Ilocos Norte registered 188 and Ilocos Sur, 38.

Bobis said while cases of HFMD admittedly have risen, there is no need to declare an outbreak of the disease in the whole region because DOH-CHD 1 has already coordinated with the Department of Education 1 for the setting up of more facilities that will enable pupils and students to wash their hands frequently while inside their respective schools.

Enough supply of bangus inspite of the cold weather

DAGUPAN City OIC Agriculturist Patrick Dizon confirmed that prevailing cold weather is affecting the growth of bangus in fishponds, cages and pens.

Dizon said while bangus tends to eat less during a cold climate, he admitted there are milkfish that are obviously bigger than the rest because owners of fishponds, cages and pens are waiting for their fishes to grow to a desired size before harvesting and selling them for bigger profit.

The OIC agriculture officer assured that despite the cold weather, there is enough milkfish that can be bought in the market because fish farmers have prepared for this period.

It was learned that the cold weather will prevail in Dagupan and Pangasinan till the month of February. (Badz Agtalao)
