BACOLOD City – Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is encouraging wearing of facemasks especially in public places amid renewed concerns over the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Lacson’s reaction came after two officials from Cadiz City Hall tested positive for the disease prompting Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. to impose the mandatory wearing of facemasks inside the city hall.
“Although it is optional, I am in favor of that and I still encourage the wearing of facemask,” Lacson said.
The governor has been seen on numerous occasions wearing a facemask even in open spaces.
On Monday, April 17, through an executive order (EO), Escalante directed the employees of the city government and their clients to wear proper facemasks while inside the enclosed government offices.
Those who fail to comply with the directive, as well as the established protocols issued by the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, “shall face appropriate administrative and/or criminal sanctions under existing laws and regulations”, read part of the EO.
“We should not still be complacent. This is also one way of reminding people that COVID-19 is still with us, not just as potent as before. It’s just nice to be healthy,” Escalante said./PN
