ILOILO City – A vendor was shot to death at the fish section of the Iloilo Terminal Market or “Super” in Barangay Flores, City Proper around 2:30 a.m. yesterday.
The victim, 46-year-old Melvin Roque, was a resident of Zone 2, Barangay Rizal Pala-pala, City Proper.
He succumbed to 10 gunshot wounds on the chest, left arm, a shoulder, nape, and other parts of the body.
According to the Iloilo City Police Station 1 (ICPS-1), the victim was standing at the entrance of the fish section when a man suddenly approached him from behind and shot him several times.
Eyewitnesses said they heard six bursts of gunfire.
The gunman was wearing a red hoodie-jacket and left immediately on a motorcycle without a licensed plate.
Responding officers of the ICPS-1 recovered 10 spent bullet shells and slugs of a .9 mm handgun from the crime scene.
Police Colonel Leo T. Batiles, director of the Iloilo City Police Office, ordered an investigation.
“Ang gin-instruct naton dira especially sa aton diri station commander, kay Major Sangrines, nga ma-conduct kita sang proper investigation para ma-apply naton ang proper procedure para matukoy naton ang motibo kag ang identity sang perpetrator,” said Batiles.
He added: “Indi pa naton matumod kun may kaangtanan ini sa illegal drugs pero wala kita untat sa pag-investigate,” the ICPO director said./PN
