CAGAYAN de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez statement on the Covid situation and on Mayor Oscar Moreno’s call for collective efforts:
My warmest greetings and prayers for my fellow Kagay-anons, fellow Mindanaonons, and for the entire country. Please stay safe and healthy everyone.
With this huge crisis that we are all facing, be assured that as your Congressman, I’m doing everything and constantly coordinating with our local and national leaders to be able to help and address the concerns of our people and community.
On the call of our City Mayor Oscar Moreno, yes, I am fully supportive of all the initiatives of the LGUs to collectively address this problem. May I reiterate my call a week ago and even during my radio and TV interviews that we already need to impose Community Quarantine. I believe that this is a concrete way to help lessen the spread of the virus.
It has been more than two weeks now that I have been doing necessary steps to help solve some issues and problems in our province and city. Here are some of the efforts that we are making
1. Through NMMC Dir. Chan, we have started sending food for 30 days for the frontliners in the emergency room of NMMC. Donations are still welcome.
2. Through DOH director Suba-an, we have sent food for 30 days to the inter-agency emergency operation center in Pearlmont hotel.
3. Efforts to procure protective gear to be given to NMMC and JR Borja hospital are on-going.
4. We are helping secure a place for the health workers to stay during their quarantine in coordination with DOH Region 10.
In the National level;
1. We have proposed the online session for members of congress to approve the P1.68 billion for the needs of DOH to combat COVID-19
2. HB 6612, to appropriate P10 Billion for emergency program to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 in the tourism sector
3. HB 6613 – appropriate P3B for an emergency employment program for workers laid-off
4. HB6614 – appropriating P10B as emergency business stimulus program to help the business sector.
Speaker Cayetano has already stated that he supports my proposal for online session of Congress once the president calls for a special session.
In this most trying times, indeed, we have to work as one. I’m humbly asking everyone to follow the government in all its mandates. For your concerns, and for proper coordination, please do contact us anytime thru these numbers:
