Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid received additional support from another leader in Iloilo.
Mayor Raul Banias of Concepcion town became the latest elected official to throw his support behind Robredo.
In his Facebook post morning of October 29, Banias posted a photo of him and Robredo during the latter’s visit in Concepcion in March 2021.
“Good Friday Morning halin sa kay Mayor Doc kag kay VP Leni,” (Good Friday morning from Mayor Doc and from VP Leni) captioned the mayor.
Banias, who used to be Iloilo provincial administrator and Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas, is a physician by profession.
Banias’ endorsement came a day after Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., expressed his “support” to Robredo
Banias’ move came as no surprise as he already hinted his support for Robredo.
In a Facebook post on October 16, the mayor said he went to a salon for a haircut and nail services.
“I asked my manicurists (yes, there were two, one for my Pedi and another for my Mani) who are they voting for. In unison they replied Leni,” he said.
Banias further narrated, “after my mani/pedi I had my haircut for whatever is left of my hair. Asking my barber who he prefers to lead the country. Without batting an eyelash he replied, a woman. Big tips coming!”
Mayor Banias’ show of support comes more than a week after Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas also publicly announced that he’s supporting Robredo.
But both Treñas and Defensor said the endorsement should come from their party, the National Unity Party.
